John Simm as Jerry in Harold Pinter’s ‘Betrayal’ - Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, May 17-June 9. Saw this at the weekend and LOVE the play, love the cast, love the costumes, love the set, love the music. Fabulous stuff, and I am so pleased to see that all the reviews so far have been positive:

and here be a slightly spoilery (but very interesting!) interview with John Simm about the role on BBC Radio4’s ‘Front Row’ programme:
The supersekrit setting on the Master’s laser screwdriver
I nearly choked on my cuppa when I saw this… :-)

Discussing Fifty Shades of Grey
- Me: Yeah, no. I'VE written better porn than that.
- Family: ...?!
- Me: I mean I've READ better porn than that!
- Family: ... o.0
- Me: For school?
- LOL - I tend to agree with your first statement...but there is something quite compelling about it too. I think I may have to adapt some of my fic and market it if its that easy... LOL
John’s face in these pix…!!!! He’s like ‘WTF am I doing???’ LOL Liz seems to be entering into the spirit, but Phil is all ‘I know what I’m doing and I don’t bloody like it….’ I’ve actually got the magazine these appeared in and they are lush, but you do wonder how they managed to talk John and Phil into this… can’t actually remember what the theme was now but I’m guessing it was to do with Britain in space… anyway, LOL and thanks for posting it again so’s I could re-blog it… :-)
Loving ‘Life on Mars’…
I have just spent an hour (maybe longer…) trawling through philiponmycracker’s awesome tumblr blog. It has reminded me all over again just why I love ‘Life on Mars’ and Sam and Gene so much … and of course John and Phil for being them and for loving the show so much too that almost an interview never goes by without them referencing it. It truly was (is) the most amazing show ever and there will NEVER be anything quite like it again. (in my humble opinion, at least)
I can’t quite believe either, that I have been a John Simm fan for almost six years now (I only ‘discovered’ him after the first series of LoM finished airing, to my eternal shame) and still love everything he does just as much as I did when I first saw it. Erm… I don’t mean that I’m surprised I still like him (cause that would be plainly ridiculous - what’s not to like, after all?!? He’s an extremely talented and nice man) but that it has been six years. Where has the time gone?!? But the good thing about it is that he just keeps getting better and better… and now I have only nine sleeps (nine!!!) until I see him in ‘Betrayal’ in Sheffield… oh, life doesn’t get much better, does it? :-) And with that, ‘I to bed,’ as another Samuel would say (Pepys, in case you hadn’t guessed… it’s thanks to John Simm in fact that I discovered Samuel Pepys has a Twitter feed … my OH and I read the diaries years and years ago before our son (another Sam - it’s a family name and a lovely one!) was even born and now he’s reading them for his history course at Sixth Form college… as Dirk Gently would say, it’s the ‘interconnectedness of things…’ XD
John Simm is forever and always extremely attractive.
Agree 100% with that!! Just re-watched Series 2 of Mad Dogs today whilst doing the ironing and even speccy, sweaty, sarky Baxter is strangely alluring….LOL

He only had it on Twitter for a minute, so here it is for anyone who missed it.
Oh how cute is he?!? I saw the convo as it was happening but must’ve missed this. That little boy could never have imagined who he would be in 2012, could he?! Lovely, thank you for sharing (and for being quick off the mark to grab it in the first place!!)

Listen listen listen listen. Every minute, every second, every beat of my hearts. There it is, calling to me. Please listen.
The Master’s desperation in this scene reminds me of that episode of The West Wing where Josh has a PTSD meltdown in the Oval Office:
JOSH You need to listen to me. You have to listen to me. I can't help you, unless you listen to me! You can't send Christmas cards to everyone, you can't do it! Forget the SPR, let's get the IMF loans like we said we were going to, listen to what I have to say about Didion, and please, listen to me!Both heartbreaking, really.
Oh, I love that scene… I mean, the Master has done some perfectly horrible things in his time and we *shouldn’t* be feeling sorry for him, really… but the Doctor obviously does and… well, it’s John Simm, isn’t it?!? The Master of Angst…
Mr Simm, your face should be illegal.
I know, isn’t he great?! He looks so YOUNG there….

Someone asked me about my icon (which of course I didn’t make…lifeonicons at LJ is a great place to hunt) but this is the picture it came from. No…unfortunately I don’t have the ‘real’ picture though.
I do (have the magazine with this gorgeous picture on it)… and I think it’s fascinating. I reckon it’s Sam Tyler as maybe John Simm imagined him - that is, looking like Bodie (Lewis Collins, the one without the curly hair!) in ‘The Professionals’ … because I read somewhere once that he kind of based some of Sam Tyler’s character on him, and it seems pretty obvious to me that whoever styled them for this photo shoot did some research. So, maybe this is the Sam Tyler we could have had… on balance, I prefer the look we got, but this is verrrry nice too. Except that we can’t see The Neck…
